The latest news online in the Hollywood circuit is about the demise of speed’s mad bomber Payne or actor/director Dennis Hopper. In his life time, he gave some brilliant performances in films like “Rebel without a Cause”, “Giant” etc. he was on of the first juvenile delinquents of cinema. The news has grieved the whole of the industry and has become the latest celebrity news online. The daily news bulletins have been showing glimpses of his life and works since he was born in the year of 1969. He made his mark with the low budgeted “easy rider” that he co-wrote with Peter Fonda and Terry Southern. The film was also directed by the late a Hopper. The national news channels all admired his work in films like “night tide”, “the American friend”.
In 1980, Hopper returned to directing with a family drama called “out of the blue” and “blue velvet”. In 1986 he won the Oscar nomination for his role in “Hoosiers”.
In his life time Hopper made it to the news headlines for all reasons inclusive and out of his career. Like in 1979 he was the hot topic in celebrity news for marrying for the fifth time to Victoria Duffy of Weston Mass. Victoria was thirty two years younger to Hopper; they named their daughter Galen Grier.
Perhaps it is not a good day for America with bad news pouring in from all spheres. On the one side it is the failure of the “top kill” plan at the gulf crisis site and on the other hand the demise of this Hollywood legend that is doing the rounds in national news today.
A daily news quoted a film critic as remembering the first interview he had had with Hopper in 1979, that was a time when Hopper was expected to fall his film “apocalypse now” was doing the rounds then. But he made an unexpected come back and stayed for a good three decades, a comeback kid through and through. Hollywood lore has it that while shooting for “from hell to Texas” in 1958, Hopper had required eighty five takes to get a scene right. Director Henry Hathaway who continued to work with him later had then said in “true grit” that “you’ll never work in this town again”. Many celebrity news tabloids have showed hoe the whole of Hollywood and related fraternity is grieved by the news.
At the age of seventy four, he died of prostrate cancer, but only after making his mark in many great films and contributing a great deal to the country’s Hollywood archives. His life had been a story worth telling in itself, for he lived it on his own terms making his own paths and writing his own journey often against the odds. Hopper will always be remembered for his never say die spirit and for the invaluable life that he lived, he will inspire generations to come as he had inspired many in his lifetime. Through his life time for decades to come, he has been and will be one of the most legendary actors Hollywood ever had.
